Vehbi Koç Vakfı’nın kuruluşunun 50. Yılı kapsamında açılan sergi ile eşzamanlı olarak basılan kitap, dönemin Ankara’sında eski ve yeni şehir bölgelerindeki yerleşimin modernleşmesi, kent ve park kültürünün oluşması, kamusal hizmetlerin modernleşmesi, anma kültürünün yaratılması, ulus kültürünün kimliğe kavuşturulması ve kentin sosyal yaşamının modernleşmesi temalarıyla açılımlar getirmektedir.

Modern Ankara’nın ilk genişlemesi sayılan Yenişehir’in 1933 tarihindeki konut ve kamu yapılarından oluşan durumunu modelleyerek yeni bir bilgi alanı ortaya çıkaran çalışma, 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinde, savaş yorgunu bir ülkede “yeni” bir “şehrin” nasıl kurulduğunu, Cumhuriyetin 10. yılına kadar ortaya konan irade ve olgularla birlikte ele almaktadır.
